An unexpected delight: Regency dance

Regency dancing 1

I left work dot on time yesterday to get on a train to Thomastown, Melbourne for a bout of Regency dancing at 6.30pm. I’m not a keen athlete in any way and while I adore dance, I am truly hopeless, with two left feet and two left hands to match. Admittedly, I was a little nervous – an unusual emotion for me to feel – and I had a large coffee while I waited to go in. Before I went in, I knew very little about Regency dancing. Most of us have seen at least one Pride and Prejudice adaptation, where Mr Darcy can use his refusal to dance to belittle, Mr Collins can use his inability to dance well to belittle himself and the women mostly stand around dying to dance with anyone other than Mr Collins. BOOK REVIEW: Fitzwilliam Darcy Rock Star

“A modern Pride & Prejudice that will rock your world … Sex, Drugs, Rock ‘N’ Roll” – Book cover

“Pride and Prejudice is definitely my favorite Austen novel… I just think it’s an amazing piece of literature that has so many facets and dimensions.” – Laurén Magda

Having been looking for new Pride and Prejudice covers to showcase on this blog, I stumbled upon a beautiful design from graphic designer, Laurén Magda, a 23 year old recent graduate (College of Creative Studies – Detroit, Michigan). I just couldn’t say no to asking her more about it, and she agreed to share some of her thoughts about the book, her life, her design and Pride and Prejudice with The Bennet Sisters.

Jane Austen’s Fight Club viral video

“After Fight Club, we were inclined to see the world differently”

If you’re as big a fan of youtube as you are of Pride and Prejudice (like myself) then you will have most likely come across the New Biggest Thing, a hit video, made this year, that parodies Fight Club (you know, that awesome film with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton) using Jane Austen’s leading ladies.  It’s had over 1,110,000 views at the time of me publishing this post.  And if you haven’t seen it, then prepare yourself for some laughs at the video below!  And get ready for my analysis of the Pride and Prej elements.
