Book Review: Jane Austen Made Me Do It

‘Original Stories Inspired by Literature’s Most Astute Observer of the Human Heart’ – Front Cover

This compilation, edited by Laurel Ann Nattress (of Jane Austen blog, AustenProse, fame), was a complete surprise to me. I was unsure of what I was expecting, but picked the paperback up regardless for (AU)$21.95 from Dymocks in Castle Towers, Castle Hill ISBN: 978-0345524966. As someone who generally does not read short stories, I found some beautiful gems within this 464-page anthology – and many of them had a Pride and Prejudice slant.

New Pride and Prejudice viral video… The Lizzie Diaries

So, we’ve seen a damn lot of popular youtube videos about Pride and Prejudice and Jane Austen (I’m thinking Jane Austen’s Fight Club to start), but this one seems to have got hits far more quickly. Postsecret and embarassing Pride and Prejudice confessions

Postsecret- Frank Warren

Postsecret is a blog that is made up of secrets written on postcards.  It sounds sort of silly, but it’s a heartfelt reminder of all the similarities and differences between people.  It can be soothing, shocking and even L-O-L funny at times, but everything about it seems to be sincere.  But why am I posting this on a Pride and Prejudice blog?  Because one postcard, about two weeks ago, came in that was my own secret through and through, but from some other place in the world, and it said “When I daydream, I pretend I’m the heroines in Jane Austen’s works.”   And it begged the question… what hidden secrets do we have about Pride and Prejudice?
