The day is drawing to a close, and I’ve never felt so overwhelmed by the Jane Austen community. Pride and Prejudice has been a part of my life for a long time, and I seek solace in the pages whenever I feel bored, exhausted, miserable or just in need of some form of recognisable beauty. It’s like crying on your best friends shoulder, or asking for advice over coffee. Sometimes the comfort can be hard to see, but it’s in the pages themselves and by the time Darcy and Elizabeth are coming to terms with their issues, you’re coming to terms with your own.

I was woken up this morning with a text message: “Check the Google logo. You’ll probably love it.” He was right! As a celebration for Austen’s birthday, 16th December, Google put up the following image:
Isn’t it just wonderful? Thoroughly debatable as to who the characters are, but I’m going with Lizzy and Darcy (for my own sanity’s sake) justified in my mind with the way they are standing, or something. This is the first time Google has celebrated Jane Austen’s birthday (according to the archives) in this manner. The Doodle team is really talented, I think the picture is just delightful!
