Pride and Prejudice’s 200th anniversary – Australian news roundup

The Pride and Prejudice 200th anniversary was a public holiday in Australia (a day in lieu for the Australia day on the Saturday), and when I came back to work on Tuesday my sub-editor handed me Page 6 and Page 7 of The Sydney Morning Herald’s weekend ‘Spectrum’ (you can see some of it here).

P&P&Zombies movie… finally some solid information

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies- Craig Gillespie directing, David O Russell script

Apparently, Gillespie will be potentially asking Keira Knightley and Colin Firth to do cameos in PPZ.  His current intent is said to be to keep the love story between Elizabeth and Darcy as the platform for the film.

Pride and Prejudice and Strippers

With the new Burlesque film hitting the screens lately (starring the lovely Christina Aguilera), it looks as though everyone wants a piece of the action.  And Pride and Prejudice (and Zombies) hasn’t been left out.  A group called “Book Club Burlesque” in New York have held a “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Strippers” night apparently to “promote literacy”, “showcase unique talent” and “have SEXY FUN!”.

Queensland Floods Pride and Prejudice Auction

For those readers who don’t live in Australia, or watch the news, Queensland is currently undergoing a terrible natural disaster.  There is widespread flooding, leaving a trail of destruction of homes, belongings and cars- and worst of all causing there to be numerous missing people and deaths.  It is hard to imagine this sort of terror happening in one’s own country, if in the world at all and what those people are going through we can only guess at. 

Luckily, Australians seem to stick together in times of crisis.  We saw this through the Victorian bushfires, and we see this again with the outpouring of support and fundraisers at this current time.  One such fundraiser is from the blog of Zinnia Pea who is selling a Jane Austen tea pot via auction to raise money for those in strife, the money of which will then be donated to the Queensland Government’s Flood Relief Appeal.
