School of Rock writer Mike White has apparently been offered the job by Lionsgate to direct Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (I’m waiting on confirmation, but web sources are fairly sure). I won’t deny that School Of Rock was an epic movie that I have watched many times (there’s a trailer below if you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it before). But this choice has now solidified the film into the ridiculous as far as I am concerned- particularly when considering that Mike White even had a romp around the Zombieland film set.
The choice of a comedic director, rather than a horror one, points to what Liongate is expecting from the film… a comedy. Certainly, the book is funny. But there’s meant to be all the ghoulishness of zombies as well, and I’m not sure that Mike White will pull it off. Unless it is Shaun Of The Dead reminiscent (I hope).
Scarlett Johansson is possibly not starring in the film due to “other commitments” (speculation remains that it is due to her casting in ‘We Bought A Zoo’ and ‘Under The Skin’). I’ve been reading other reports that Natalie Portman is STILL going to be in it, but support for this claim seems to be non-existant (in fact this article states that Portman said she was “too old” to be Elizabeth Bennet). Bradley Cooper is still regularly suggested to be our Darcy.
The rest of the cast is still as pickled up as ever.
But suggestions include Mia Wasikowska (the Australian seen in Alice in Wonderland and soon to be seen in Jane Eyre), Tilda Swinton (as Catherine De Bourgh) and Catherine O’Hara (as Mrs Bennet). Mia would be great as a Jane Bennet, or even as a younger sister.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m getting pretty sick of hearing about who is NOT going to be in it… I want to know the proper details already. Let us hope this film makes progress ASAP. Either way, you know I’ll keep you updated here!
